“The fairies really own this house
or so the children say,
In fact, they all of them moved in
upon the self same day.”
Inspired by the House. Mrs Malcolm Mason. 1923.
I am captivated by this image of a house that I saw on the back of a supplement in Country Living this month and just had to find out more about it. At first I thought it was a trick of photoshop but it is in fact real! It is aptly named The House in the Clouds and is in Thorpeness, Suffolk. It was built for the above mentioned Mrs Mason who was a writer of children's books. What a lucky lady - it reminds me of the poem of the old lady who lived in a shoe. I hope Mrs Mason had a laundry chute.
I would love to hear from anyone who has seen it or better still had the fortune of staying there. Meanwhile, you can find out more at the website.

Hello Carol, how lovely to met a new blogger with beautiful posts. Thanks for your lovely comment on my blog, really kind.
Wow, what an amazing part of the world you live in, I've only been to Scotland a couple of time (skiing with school) and to the Angus glens briefly on our way up to Shetland for our honeymoon. Must get back up there soon.
I've just had a read of some of your previous posts, what a gorgeous makeover you gave those doves, ever so pretty.
Hope to catch up with you more soon (beautiful picture of you and your little man btw - I know all about having to stay upstairs until they're asleep too, actually in the same room some nights and mine is 4!).
Best wishes
Stephx

There's no lift! But at least there are resting areas on each floor. I've never heard of this house but you'd certainly be fit living there.

Carol,
My gaster is well and truly flabbered!!! How unbelievably fab is your blog??? I am SO so impressed - it's so you and so beautifully presented! What a tranquil retreat from the manic goings on in our family home!!
Just wanted to tell you what I think you're doing is great... SIL did recommend I sit and read your blog over a cuppy and a slice of cake, and believe it or not, I have both in hand as I've just finished (11.20pm) baking a cake for Ali's birthday, and I dropped it all over the floor as I was taking it out of its tin!!!Its in a zilion pieces! Aargh! However, it does taste good - and I did wash the floor earlier this evening... honestly!!

What a really wonderful place! I love quirky houses - we stayed in a windmill last year as a birthday treat - it was brilliant!

It is a rather wonderful house close up too all though have never stayed there. Thorpeness in general is a wonderfull place, its mere with island too discover, including wendys house, a windmill nearly opposite the house in the clouds and the beach. I love visiting when we are visiting family in Suffolk. Lovely to find your blog.
