Bargains of the week
This morning I headed off to our village muir for the first car boot of the year. I am a little inexperienced at these events and still haven't quite mastered the art of haggling. I spotted this glass jug below just as I'd started going round and had a bit of banter with the seller who promised if it was still there when I went round the second time, he'd knock a pound off it. So how come I ended up buying it for its original price...hmmm...duh.
But I love, love, love it! It's quite unusual, with its frosted handle and scalloped rim and is very heavy. If anyone has seen one like it and can tell me a bit more, I'd love to hear from you. The seller said it may have been from the 1930's but I'm not so sure it's that old.
On my way home, I dropped into the charity shop and saw this adorable little wool house. It's made up of sort of plastic cross stitch sheets that are sewn together with wool. It probably once adorned a loo roll but it certainly won't be near one in my house. I think Mr Clover Yard might just divorce me over that one. It does look very sweet on my shelf in the spare room though.
These flowery teacups screamed at me from the window. They came minus their saucers which I rarely find. Odd that. They are quite a squat little cup, so delicate with such a beautiful rose pattern, the shades of pink are really pretty. I have quite a collection of these now and have yet to decide what to do with them. My instinct is to fill them with little posies of roses or maybe candle wax.
Hope you are having a lovely weekend blog friends. x

The teacups filled with candle wax would be amazing! I keep wanting to do that with old jars we have been collecting, but have yet to devote the time to it!! :)

Hi Carol,
Love all your bargain finds, especially that jug! Candle wax would be lovely, or pot them up with bubls? Must get back into going to the auctions, haven't been for ages.
I was over your way this morning at a fab plant sale in the Guide hut in Forfar, got some real bargains for the garden so hopefully they'll be planted before the opening!
I managed to pick up a couple of delightful tea sets a few weeks ago from a local charity shop, they're going to be used for the tea party, along with a couple of others I got up a while back, hopefully about 40 cups and saucers should do us!
Hopefully see you there!

I love the pitcher! I have never seen anything like that before. What a find!

Now they are first class finds indeed Carol. Love the cups especially. I have two large, saucerless cups covered in rosebuds and they've become my capuccino mugs at home and work. Big enough and bone china keeps it warm for ages.
I'm not a haggler either - far too embarrassing!

P.S. Loved your Peter Pan post. We stopped briefly in Kirriemuir on our honeymoon then had a night in Glen Clova on our way to catch the ferry to Shetland from Aberdeen. What a gorgeous part of the world you're in.
P.P.S Big Shirley Hughes fans here too - we're enjoying some Alfie books at the moment.

Hi Carol, lovely finds, I think those cups will be great as tea-light holder, good idea, but equally good as posy vases! The jug is really great, you may need to practice you're haggling skills but some sellers will never budge no matter what you do.

Beautiful finds. The china cups would have screamed at me too. I did spot a similar set in a charity shop but they were priced a £15.00 and I was not sure if this was expensive? a set of 4 I think!
I do love your table cloth as well.
